A day off may seem like a good reason to stay home and out of the cold but that was not the case at Patterson Lake for some local fishermen and one president on this President's Day. "My main reason to hold the ice fishing is to do something to celebrate winter and have some fun," said Dickinson State President Thomas Mitzel, the event's host. The fishing began at 8 a.m. and finished at 2 p.m. Even though there was no grand prize, Mitzel said whoever caught the largest fish would be the winner.
The Dickinson State Rodeo team is currently on their offseason, but the student-athletes insist this does not mean they are slacking one bit. The athletes keep busy during the winter months doing school work, practicing and preparing themselves and their horses for the spring rodeo season approaching in April. "My horses go home in October but once I bring them back here in January I ride every day," Jerilyn Wiseman, a junior at Dickinson State, said. "Having four head up here keeps me really busy."
