Police: Drunk man broke into home, tried to stab boy in western ND
WILLISTON, N.D. -- Prosecutors say a 22-year-old man accused of breaking into a Williston home Friday morning, June 8, and trying to stab an 11-year-old boy in the head was so intoxicated he couldn’t tell police what year or day it was.
Gary Red Eagle III was charged Monday with burglary and attempted aggravated assault, both class B felonies, and terrorizing, a class C felony. He was ordered held on $50,000 bond.
An 11-year-old boy told police he was sleeping on the couch in a home when Red Eagle broke in an tried to stab him in the head, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Northwest District Court. The boy also told police Red Eagle threatened to kill him.
During a bond hearing Monday, Eric Lundberg, assistant state’s attorney for Williams County, asked for Red Eagle’s bond to be set at $50,000, which the judge granted. Lundberg said Red Eagle told police he believed the house belonged to someone other than the people who owned it and that the family that lived there had no idea who Red Eagle was.
Red Eagle is due back in court July 12 for a preliminary hearing.
