Faith Expressions celebrates 30 years

Faith Expressions is preparing to celebrate its 30th anniversary as a locally owned Christian gift and bookstore  at 28 First St. W.

Owner Stormie Kasian and her husband, Joe, will celebrate the occasion with a open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19. They will serve hot dogs, chips and soda.

“We want to thank our customers for their support and loyalty -- thanks to the community and thanks  to American State Bank for allowing us to be here,” Stormie Kasian said.

The Kasians love their downtown location and their neighbors.

“We’re helping to keep downtown Dickinson thriving and it’s only going to get better,” she said.

Faith Expressions was started by Marge and Harold Sundgren. They owned the business for 21 years before selling it to Curt and Julie Kittelson who were owners for seven years. Then they sold the store to Stormie and Joe in 2016

“To be honest, when I walked into the store, I was never looking to buy a store,” said Stormie, who had been a hairdressers for 17 years. “I never sold retail in my life except for cans of hairspray.”

Julie and Joe took a leap of faith and purchased the store. She thanked long-time employees Mary Ennis and Carol Rambousek for their loyal support.

“Julie was amazing and trained me, along with Carol and Mary. God guides me every single day,” she said.

In keeping with the store’s tradition, she displays much of the same inventory, and will add items according to customer requests. She sells Christian gifts for celebrations such as baptisms, First communions, weddings, anniversaries and birthdays.

“The gifts express faith, encouragement and hope,” she said. “We have children’s stories and toys, music, music, stuffed animals. We have crosses, books of daily devotionals and books that encourage spirituality,” she said.

The regular business hours are  10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday;  10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
